Azeez Salawu

Team Member

Azeez Salawu, 28, Nigerian, is a youth in agriculture advocate and climate activist with broad experience in mobilizing the youth for climate action, food, and nutrition security, and sustainable development in Nigeria. He has robust experience in designing and implementing campaigns and advocacy tools. He has skills in change communication, social media campaign, and facilitation and moderation of training, dialogue, consultation, and learning sessions.

He is the Founder and Executive Director at Community Action for Food Security (CAFS), a registered not-for-profit organization committed to promoting a food-secure Africa through efforts that support sustainable agriculture and enhance livelihood. The organization also spearheads advocacy projects and awareness campaigns in line with the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on Goals 1, 2, 5, 8, 13, and 17.

Azeez currently serves as a technical committee member for the implementation of the UN Food Systems Summit outcome where he coordinates all the youth engagements with the National Convenor in Nigeria, an ambassador, at the CLIMATE2020 Conference, Hamburg, Germany (2020), and also a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeeper. He won the AfricaRice ATASP-1 project Research Thesis Scholarship in 2017 and won the NYSC State Honors Award as the Most Outstanding Corp member in FCT-Abuja for embarking on Community Development Service Projects in 2017

Azeez is a core group member, of the Act4Food Act4Cange campaign, Leader, of Climate Reality Leadership Corp; the Convener, of the annual Food Security Future Summit; an Alumnus, of HOMEF School of Ecology; Member, of the FAO Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition; Member, of the Global Food Security Cluster; Member, Voices for Food Security (VFS); Member, Agricultural Society of Nigeria; Member, Nigerian Civil Society Framework on Paris Agreement and SDGs. He is also a Youth Liaison member supporting the UN Food Systems Summit.
Azeez has participated in high-level discussions and negotiations both at the international and local levels on critical developmental issues on climate change, agriculture, sustainable development, human rights, and electoral reforms. Azeez operates effectively at the governmental and policy levels as well as at the citizens and community levels.
